Todos Santos

Todos Santos: Culture and Luxury

Todos Santos is a charming, sleepy town in Baja California Sur. With stunning oceanfront villas and art galleries, life in Todos Santos is punctuated by the many festivals held throughout the year.

Todos Santos: From Missions to Sugarcane Cultivation

The first settlers in the area—like much of Baja California Sur—were Jesuit missionaries, who established the Mission Santa Rosa de Todos los Santos in 1733.

After the Jesuits were expelled by the Spanish government, the Franciscans and Dominicans arrived, but after various challenges, the mission was eventually abandoned.

Following the mission’s abandonment, from the mid-19th to mid-20th century, the region experienced significant growth in the agro-industrial sector, thanks to the construction of numerous sugar mills.

Exploring the Pueblo Mágico

In 2006, Todos Santos earned the title of Pueblo Mágico, a designation given to Mexican towns that preserve their traditions and cultural heritage over time.

What makes Todos Santos particularly delightful is its temperate climate, offering a perfect setting to enjoy its unique blend of history, art, and natural beauty.

Todos Santos

It almost never rains in Todos Santos, with an average of just 151 mm of rainfall per year, concentrated in the summer and winter months (August, September, December, and January). The annual average temperature is 22.6°C, dropping to 19°C in December and January and rising to an average of 28°C in the summer.

During some summer periods, temperatures can climb higher, nearing 33°C, but they remain cooler than those in La Paz, where summer temperatures often reach a scorching 45°C. This makes Todos Santos a favourite destination for North Americans who prefer to avoid the intense heat of Baja California summers.

Hotel California

No mention of Todos Santos would be complete without referencing the legendary Hotel California, famously linked to one of the most iconic soft rock songs in history, thanks to the renowned band, the Eagles.

It’s uncertain whether the Eagles were directly inspired by this Hotel California, but the iconic opening guitar riff has undoubtedly made the hotel famous worldwide.

Another legend tied to the Hotel California—one of many—is that of the ghost of a beautiful young woman who is said to appear to guests at the hotel bar.

So, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, it’s worth stopping by the bar for a drink, hoping for a visit from the alluring ghost of the Hotel California.

Todos Santos: The Perfect Destination for Relaxation and Art

With its mild climate, welcoming locals, and cultural charm, Todos Santos has become a favourite destination for prominent figures in the arts and culture world, particularly American musicians and artists who have chosen to settle here for a peaceful and relaxed lifestyle.

Todos Santos is brimming with art galleries as well as vibrant shops selling local crafts.

Add to this the breathtaking sunsets visible from the vast, stunning beaches surrounding the town, and Todos Santos becomes an unmissable destination that you simply must visit.
